Rooted in Love: The Power of The Native Network
Presented in Partnership with City eWaste

Join us for an evening dedicated to growing a greener, healthier Tennessee.

Event Details: Thursday, Feb 12, 5:45 pm - 8:00 pm in Historic Franklin, TN *address provided upon RSVP

Our Goal: $10,000 for Tennessee’s CanopyWe are gathering local changemakers to raise $10,000 to fuel our mission of planting native trees across the state. These funds directly support our work in transforming highway corridors into natural ecosystems and restoring riverbanks.

The Impact of Your Support:
  • Native Reforestation: We plant native species that are essential for supporting local pollinators and wildlife habitats.
  • Clean Air & Water: Our tree-planting initiatives act as natural filters for our air and provide critical stormwater runoff management.
  • Efficiency in Action: Every $6 donated allows us to plant one native tree in a public space, roadway, or waterway.

An Evening of Connection

"Rooted in Love" is a celebration of the Native Network—the community of people and organizations working together to ensure Tennessee thrives for generations to come.
  • Community Networking: Engage with fellow environmental advocates and local leaders passionate about sustainability.
  • Mission Insight: Hear about our current restoration efforts and our 2026 goal to make native trees accessible to every Tennessee resident.
  • Savor a curated selection of passed appetizers—including truffle oil deviled eggs, savory meatballs, and roasted root vegetable tarts—alongside an open bar, signature citrus punch, and mini pecan tarts (this may be too detailed but you've got it if you need it)

Tickets & Registration
  • [Register to Attend] – Secure your spot for the evening and purchase your ticket
  • [Give a Gift of Love] – Help us hit our $10,000 goal by donating directly if you are unable to attend in person.

Plant a Tree for Tennessee 2026

Plant a Tree for Tennessee is a grassroots, community-powered program with one simple goal: to make it easy and affordable for everyone across Tennessee to plant native trees in their own yards and neighborhoods. By putting native seedlings directly into the hands of residents, we’re growing healthier ecosystems, supporting wildlife, and expanding green space where it’s needed most.

We’re currently finalizing our distribution sites and recruiting volunteers, and we’re excited to officially launch this year’s Plant a Tree for Tennessee campaign very soon. Tree distribution is planned for April 18th.

This spring, we’ll be offering a diverse mix of native fruiting and flowering trees—carefully selected to benefit pollinators, wildlife, and local waterways (species listed down below).

Seedlings will be available for just $2.99 each, and we’re aiming high with a statewide goal of distributing 10,000 trees. Be sure to subscribe to our newsletter so you don’t miss the launch, volunteer opportunities, or important updates.

Store opening soon—let’s grow Tennessee together, one tree at a time. 🌳

A standout native shrub known for its bright purple berries in late summer and fall. Beautyberry is easy to grow, great for pollinators, and provides important food for birds while adding bold color to the landscape.
A tough, adaptable native shrub with peeling bark and clusters of white spring flowers. Ninebark supports pollinators, offers year-round interest, and thrives in a wide range of soil and moisture conditions.

A hardy native that produces fragrant spring flowers and edible plums. Wild plum supports pollinators early in the season and provides food for wildlife while working well in hedgerows and restoration plantings.
A unique native shrub that thrives in wet soils and along streams, ponds, and rain gardens. Buttonbush produces round, white flowers that are a magnet for pollinators and plays an important role in improving water quality while providing habitat for wildlife.

A beloved native tree with showy spring blooms, fall color, and berries that birds depend on. Dogwoods are perfect for smaller yards and play an important role in supporting local wildlife and forest ecosystems.
A fast-growing native shade tree known for its striking mottled bark and large leaves. Sycamores thrive near water, help stabilize streambanks, and provide cooling shade and habitat for birds and insects.

We’re Looking for Volunteers This April! 🌱

We’re gearing up for our April tree distribution events and need helping hands across Tennessee. Each site needs two volunteers, and as a thank-you, every volunteer can receive up to 10 free tree seedlings.

If you’d like to support a community-led effort that strengthens neighborhoods and expands access to green spaces, we’d love to have you join us.

🌱 Lytle Creek Tree Planting Recap

On December 4, Green Interchange and community volunteers came together to plant 65 native trees along Lytle Creek in Murfreesboro. This restoration effort will help stabilize streambanks, improve water quality, and strengthen habitat along this important tributary of the Stones River.

Lytle Creek plays a key role in the Cumberland River watershed, and planting native trees helps reduce runoff, filter pollutants, and build long-term resilience for both the creek and the surrounding community.
We’re grateful to the Arbor Day Foundation for sponsoring this project and to every volunteer who helped make a healthier watershed possible—one tree at a time.

🌳 Plant a Bigger Tree for Tennessee – 2025 Recap!

This year, we’re thrilled to share that we sold over 60 of our larger trees as part of our Plant a Bigger Tree for Tennessee program! A huge shoutout to Renia Falcone from Primex Color Compounding & Additives and Kristin England from MTSU for their incredible help distributing trees and supporting this effort.

🌿 Live Staking Stewardship Workshop & Training — Thanks for Coming Out!

Picture

🌿 Another amazing day on the Nolichucky River! Nearly twenty volunteers came out, waders on and ready to roll — and we got all 1,900 live stakes in the ground. We even watered the trees planted back in October. 💪🌊
Live staking is a powerful, low-cost way to rebuild riverbanks and boost biodiversity, using cut stems that root right into the soil. Our species for the day: box elder, American elderberry, arrowwood viburnum, buttonbush, red twig dogwood, and eastern cottonwood. 🌱
Huge thanks to our partners — Appalachian Watershed Alliance, Nolichucky Outdoor Recreation Association, Nolichucky Restoration Project, and Keep Greene Beautiful. Great people, great conversations, and real connections made.

Grateful for this community. If you believe in this work, please donate if you can — every dollar supports restoration right here in East Tennessee. 💚

Our Approach

Our Mission

Our mission is to create green spaces in Southeastern U.S. communities that contribute to healthier communities, thriving economies, and a greater quality of life. We achieve this through native plant installations that create climate resilience and restore healthy ecosystems.

Our Beginnings

Congressman Mark Green conceived Green Interchange and launched it in partnership with the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the Tennessee Division of Forestry to beautify Tennessee’s highways and roadways and unite Tennesseans on both sides of the aisle in protecting the environment.

How We Work

Simple and Effective.

We plant trees where they have maximum impact along  roadways, waterways, and in "other ways" such as public spaces or other places. Trees and other natural infrastructure offer outstanding benefits, for instance:
"Noise and vegetative barriers can reduce downwind pollutant concentrations near roads."
- U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

"Forested stream banks act like a sponge, filtering out excessive nutrients, sediment, and other
pollutants that run off from the land that would be damaging if they entered a stream. "

- Christina Catanese , The EPA Blog

Join the Effort!

Whether you want to offset the CO2 emissions from your car, or to join us stream side in planting trees, there are many ways you can make a difference.  It is through our supporters and partners like you that we accomplish our goals.
